29 Years of Moving People Forward

From the Navy to New York City to Louisville — I've spent a career helping others get strong, stay capable, and move younger.

The Story

Built on Real Experience

As a Navy SeaBee, our motto was "Can Do" — two words that don't leave a lot of room for excuses. Showing up every day and doing hard work, the kind that demands your body be ready, planted the seed for everything I believe about Physical Independence: that strength isn't just vanity. It's capability. It's readiness. It's the foundation for everything else. (Though let's be honest, wanting to look like you actually go to the gym is a completely reasonable goal.)

After the Navy and college, I moved to New York City to chase a career in performing arts. I worked as a performer, spent plenty of time on the road, and everywhere I went, I found a gym. Fellow cast members started asking to tag along. What began as a personal habit turned into something I couldn't stop thinking about — I was spending far more time researching movement and exercise than I ever did learning a monologue. I was hooked on movement-first methodologies and the idea that building strength isn't just about surviving the day — it's about handling whatever curveballs life decides to throw.

I founded First Move Fitness with one mission: help real people build Physical Independence — the ability to move well, stay capable, and take care of yourself on your own terms for as long as possible.

That's what Lifelong Strong actually means. And it starts with finding where you are right now, moving from there, and discovering what you can do.

When I'm not talking about the life-changing value of progressive strength work, I'm happy to discuss a second cup of coffee, outlaw country music, and comfortable shoes. Most importantly — proud husband to Michelle, and dad to Ruby and Gus.

Philosophy

Physical Independence

Most of us want the same thing. A long, healthy life — and actually enjoying it while we're at it. We want to stay capable. We want to keep up with the people we love. We want to say yes when something sounds fun instead of making excuses about our knees.

We want to be someone they look forward to having around — not someone they worry about. Better yet, we want to be the fun one.

That's Physical Independence. The ability to move well, stay capable, and take care of yourself on your own terms for as long as possible. To carry the groceries, get up off the floor, travel without hesitation, keep up with your kids or grandkids. To still be the person up for the adventure — at any age.

Every program, every session, every exercise is chosen with that long view in mind. This isn't suffering for a six-pack. It's about building a body that carries you through decades of living — and makes those decades worth showing up for.

The work isn't glamorous. It's consistent. It's progressive. And it compounds over a lifetime. But it can also be genuinely enjoyable — if not downright fun — even if you don't have an exercise-enjoying bone in your body.
